"Determination is a beautiful, and scary thing at the same time. It could make or break you but above all, speak up, own things ... " - Igee Okafor

Igee Okafor first post was in march of 2014, with the purpose of creating a “visual journal” that reflects his current and evolving fashion tastes. His contributions to fashion started as early as 15 years of age when he posted his outfits online. His drive and passion are evident within each new post that keeps readers like myself engaged with new content that inspire and transform.
Igee’s youthful features can easily be mistaken for a teenager, but his style expresses a maturity directly reflected in his collection of classic nostalgic fashions that communicate a keen awareness of how this tells his story.
I contacted Igee to talk about his insightful contributions to fashion and exploring his individual creativity.

WHAT DOES STYLE MEAN TO YOU?

“Style really is just another way for me to showcase who I am, and what my interests are. Style is supposed to be creative, and I like to see it as a reflection of my references, and aspirations combining the things I loved as a kid, and the things I am gravitated to nowadays.”

WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO DEVELOPING YOUR STYLE?

“Developing your signature style really is a process. I say try everything! See what aesthetic you feel most yourself, and comfortable in, and that’s your style. Once that’s all figured out, drawing inspiration from people who are considered pacesetters in said style helps for growth and showcasing its different faces. “

WHAT ARE THE STAPLE FASHION ITEMS THAT YOU BUILD ON?

“Great question. I find that I gravitate towards coats, jackets, shoes, and hats. Pieces that can make or break your look.”

"Going back to the same thing for me inspires a creative eye prompted to figure out alternative ways to recreate." - Igee Okafor

Versatility : The Double-Breasted Threat

The Style of the Double Breasted suit originated under the influences of the naval world as the Pea coat. Later the style evolved in America as the “Reefer” jacket in the late 19th century. It was an outerwear jacket worn to sporting events and outdoor events. The Duke of Windsor, a stylish trendsetter of the 1930s adapted it as a leading staple within his wardrobe and supported the style’s rise to a more formal business setting, where it was earlier rejected by the business culture. The DB style is associated with power and luxury, that was adapted by banker and mobster alike.

After a time the style became dated, but in later years has become a distinguishing look to its wearer. When a DB is worn today, it communicates exclusivity, refined tastes and, a sense of stylish fortitude.

Igee frequently visits this look and perfectly executes his vision to present the versatility of the classic vintage style to his modern audience. With a bold and formal color selection that explores the possibilities of what this double-breasted suit is capable of in the right hands.

What directions would you like to see your site go into?

“Prioritizing information that is relevant, and straight to the point. Modeled after something like MR PORTER’s online journal, an online magazine would be lovely. “

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

What or who Inspired YOU to create your blog?

“I started following blogs at a very early age. I want to say maybe the 10th grade of high school? I was always inspired my men who were pace-setting in the community at the time who took the liberty to express styles that traditional media wasn’t exactly showcasing at the time. I remember people like Adam Gallagher, Denny Balmaceda, Steven Onoja and a few others. To me, it was really impressive because men’s style wasn’t too celebrated at the time. That instilled a want to share to my own perspective about something I seemed to have developed an interest in, so I started to contribute articles to lifestyle media outlets.”

“I knew I wanted to create my own thing, but I was lacking confidence. Thankfully, I eventually did due to my mom forcing me. She hated me working for other people, so she offered to pay for my website in the first year with a week’s deadline to put up content. Praise mom!”

Igee clearly pays attention to the rules of fit, which perfectly outlines his silhouette, creating a slick modern look. Igee thoughtfully chooses colors that compliment and flatter his skin tone. The brown earth tones are relaxing and welcoming, perceived as genuine, authentic and reflective of character qualities that Igee’s personality type exudes.

What are your favorite events to attend?

“Any event where I’m allowed the opportunity to dress up, meet nice people, and authentically be myself, I am a fan of. I tend to gravitate towards dinners, dance parties, and performance shows.”
